The journal “Personalized Psychiatry and Neurology” (PPN) was founded in 2019 by V. M. Bekhterev National Medical Research Centre for Psychiatry and Neurology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (Bekhterev NMRC PN), Head of the Bekhterev NMRC PN is Nikolay G. Neznanov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Hon. Scientist of the Russian Federation, President of the Russian Society of Psychiatrists, Head of the Department  of Geriatric Psychiatry of the Bekhterev NMRC PN (St. Petersburg, Russian Federation), Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Narcology of the First St. Petersburg State Medical University named after acad. I.P. Pavlov (St. Petersburg, Russian Federation).

The first issue of the journal PPN was published on May 15, 2021.

The journal has a unique specialization in the field of personalized psychiatry and neurology. At that moment, Russia lacked journals of these specialties. In a literal sense, from its outset, the journal was recognized by its authors and readers owing to its interesting and pressing topics and authoritative editorial board, to high-level publications and polygraphic processes, and to the skilled work of editors. Since the outset of the journal, each issue has been open-access.

The members of the journal’s editorial board are well-known scientists (psychiatrists, neurologists, pharmacologists, genetics, etc.) from Russia and foreign countries (USA, United Kingdom, France, Finland, Israel, Japan), many of them are directors of clinics and institutes or heads of specialized departments. These constantly publish the results of their researches and investigations in the journal, act as peer-reviewers and editors of special issues. Many of them have high impact factors.

When selecting articles to be published, the editorial board tries to maintain a balance between the papers by specialists from the country’s regions, those by young scientists (applicants for the academic degrees of Candidate or Doctor of Medical Sciences), and those by well-known psychiatrists, neurologists, clinical pharmacologists and genetists. The articles of young scientists and specialists in the periphery frequently go through two steps of the peer review process and are thoroughly finalized.

The editorial board policy is the maximal openness of the journal. Immediately following its appearance, the journal is available in open access. Its qualitative English-language website (https://www.jppn.ru/jour) that places full-text versions of last issues and archives of the journal during all years in free access favors an increase in the number of its readers to a greater extent.
